About the Kids
Marathon -
Kids are an important part of Marathon weekend! Participants from all over the
United States and many countries will come
to the Olympic Peninsula to run in the
Marathon or Half Marathon. These adults train all year long to be in
shape to run the distance. Kids have the
opportunity to run their own marathon!
The North Olympic Discovery Kids Marathon is a 1.2 mile fun run for children 12 and under. Kids run 25 miles during 6 -10 weeks leading up to Marathon Weekend. Kids set their own weekly goals and track their miles on the mileage sheet enclosed on the registration form. Kids will earn a toe token for every five miles they complete - these will be awarded to kids who live outside of Clallam County at registration.
On kids race day, the actual marathon course will be theirs and they will complete their last 1.2 miles at City Pier under the same finish line as the big marathon! All kids are welcome to run or walk at the event. Parents must sign a waiver for all kids who enter. Parents are welcome and encouraged to walk or run with their kids.
Our mission is to promote kids’ health and fitness and to promote the marathon weekend as a family festival.
“After three days, I finally had to peel off my daughters kids marathon t-shirt to wash it. She was so proud of her accomplishment that she wore her shirt and medal for two weeks straight. Our family traveled from Nevada to cheer for my mom and husband running the half marathon, but watching my girls participate in the kids marathon was the definite highlight for all of us. -Anne Newlin, Sparks, Nevada
